“In a world divided by fear, hate, and prejudice, Racine embarks on a journey to discover who she really is. After a lifetime of alienation and rejection because of the colour of her skin and her Black heritage, she discovers the ultimate truth of good
is wrapped up in the magic of the Story. Stories have the power to change the world, but first, the stories need unlocking.
In this thought-provoking, profoundly moving call-to-arms fantasy story, Alison Clarke tells the story of Racine’s self-discovery and coming of age through her exploration of the ‘Story’ throughout time and ages. As Racine travels from the Library of Congress through time and space to lands both magical and real, she unlocks the mysteries of her own heritage and comes to understand that there are more things that join us than divide us.
Winner of Canada’s Diversity Magazine Award ‘Black Writer Of The Year Award 2017’ Alison Clarke writes inspirational, magical stories with a powerful message about being the change in the world we would like to see. For readers of all ages.”
Racine is a lonely young woman trying to figure out her path in life. She spends her days hiding out in the famed Library of Congress, using her love of reading to comfort old wounds. She soon discovers a magical world full of legendary figures and learns some profound life lessons on her journey.
This story is well written with a treasure trove of imagery and superb world building. You can tell the author took great care in crafting this story. (I love a good craftswoman 😉 )
Alison Clarke has a way of making the reader feel she is inhabiting the body of the main character. Everything Racine experienced made me feel like I was actually there with her in real time (and we all know that is the mark of an excellent book). I also think I need to gush about the cover.
The cover of this book is a thing of beauty. I have stared at it longer than is acceptable, even my fangirl standards. The colors are strong and bright, giving off a dreamy quality while our main character is standing in profile looking up at the sky with a dreamy expression and blade in hand. She is a woman on a mission and I want to see what it is. Also…Can we PLEASE get ZENDAYA to play RACINE? I would die, she is my girl crush of the moment and I personally think she would be perfect. So there, it’s been put out there so the universe can hear it. Make this a movie starring Zendaya please and thank you.

Now that it’s
been put out there so the universe can hear it, let’s repeat this mantra: Make this a movie starring Zendaya please and thank you. Of course, in order for it to reach the attention of the movie gods, everyone needs to READ it, so go forth and one-click and it shall be so. (pretty sure that’s written on an ancient scroll somewhere) ❤
So, we have a gorgeous cover and an equally gorgeous story. You know what that means boys and girls…. We have a winner! Racine gets a 5 out of 5 stars and a recommendation for everyone to read it!
It is available on Amazon along with The Sisterhood by Alison Clarke which is the first book in that series.
Until next time,
