Book Review:Charmed and Dangerous by Debbie Herbert

Just got done blotting my eyes with a hankie. This one was a good one and it definitely gave me the “feels”.

Charmed and Dangerous is Book 1 in Debbie Herbert’s Appalachian Magic Series.  It features a young lady named Callie and and the mysterious immortal James, with whom Callie feels an immediate connection to. I know, I know, you’re thinking “Twilight Alert!” But I’m gonna stop you there. It’s not that kind of paranormal romance.

Callie is a witch slated to come into immense power and James isn’t a vampire. He’s immortal, like that 80’s movie my mom really really loved, not sure if I’m allowed to mention it by name so I’ll slap on a meme so you’ll get the reference :

sVtfU5B So you get the reference and now I hope you’re as excited as I was about this book!

So back to the review. Callie is a young witch, who has moved back to her hometown in Alabama in an effort to end the estrangement with her mother and grandmother.  Shortly into her stay with them, she comes across James.  He’s hot, he’s nice, he’s funny, and he’s hot. What more could a girl want? Both of them instantly feel a connection when they touch. It’s pure energy, and as it would happen; lightening strikes when they meet the first time. 🙂 While they seem to hit it off, neither one wants to tell the other their secrets.

Callie is a witch in danger from her evil father and James belongs to a deadly race of immortal beings who fight to the death anytime they come across another of their kind.  Eventually, the dangers in their lives become too real to hide and they come clean.  Now the obstacles set before them are pretty hard to overcome.  Callie is mortal, James is not. Witches are natural enemies of Immortals. Callie’s father will stop at nothing to claim her and her powers for evil. James has a complete stunner of an ex girlfriend pining for him.

Debbie Herbert tackles all these problems skillfully.  She weaves a tale full of romance and adventure. It’s funny and sensual and pretty fast paced. It will activate all of your feelings! To sum it up in a quick sentence with television references its : Highlander meets Charmed.  I loved every single word I read and give it 5 out of 5 stars!  Once you’ve read  this one, you should check out my review of Book 2 in the series: Changeling.  Both books are New Adult Paranormal Romance and are sensual but not graphic. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!
