Calling All Lovers Of Paranormal and YA Novels! Today’s Author Spotlight goes to…..
The delightful author of Flesh and Stone has answered some silly questions for me and I’ve posted some links to check out her works. Also, if you’re in the Roanoke Virgina area April 2, 2016 you’ll be able to meet her at the Roanoke Author Invasion!
First, here’s a brief synopsis of Flesh and Stone:
Seventeen-year-old Ellie Whitewood dreams of being a doctor and giving back to the grandfather who raised her after the death of her parents. When she receives an inheritance from a reclusive aunt, she becomes the mistress of a sprawling manor. Selling the property to pay for college seems like the answer to her prayers, but each day she grows more and more attached to the stone gargoyles adorning the manor rooftop. After finding the Whitewood journals, she learns she is the latest in a line of Caretakers who, with her Sentinels, defends the world from evil. While she is drawn to her Sentinel, Gabriel, and her new life, her future isn’t written in stone. Haunted by dark dreams and facing deadly enemies, is she willing to sacrifice her well-laid plans and accept her new calling…even if it comes with wings and sharp teeth?
I’m thinking I’m going to pick up a paper copy at the Roanoke Author Invasion 😉 Plus, I haven’t read any gargoyle books, so it’ll be a learning experience for me.
Now for some burning questions:
Bibliogal: Did Any Characters End Up Completely Different From How You Initially Planned Them?
Hernandez:One of the gargoyles, Michael, was meant to be much more sympathetic and give the romantic interest, Gabriel, more of a challenge. He comes off as kind of a jerk (even though he has REASONS) and he only gives the romantic lead a challenge because Ellie has trouble coming to grips with her new life. (Geez, I hope that wasn’t to spoiler-y. Er, spoiler alert?)
Bibliogal: Which Character Would You Like To Date/ Hang Out With Socially? Why?
Hernandez:John! That gargoyle likes to have fun. He’s the imp on my shoulder (well, not LITERALLY because he’s freaking huge) daring me to do something that might get the cops involved. I see him really cutting loose in the future. (Er, sort of spoiler alert for book 2? I’m bad at this.)
Bibliogal: What Surprised You Most When Researching For Your Book?
Hernandez: So, I love gargoyles. I did a lot of research my whole life without even knowing I was going to write about them. No big surprises. Ask me about my Frankenstein retelling…ugh, gross. Lots of surprises and none of them should be shared around mealtime.
